2018 – WHAT A YEAR!

2018 has been an incredible adventure for all of us at Dunia Baru.
Here are some of the highlights.

Exploring new destinations

The year kicked off with the suparyacht sailing in Palau, a tiny island nation in the western Pacific Ocean that is taking very important steps to protect its astounding marine environment. Dunia Baru spent about five weeks in Palau, and guests were absolutely enthralled by the diving there.

Being recognized as the best in Asia

In April Dunia Baru was recognized at the Asia Boating Awards as Best Asia-based Charter Company, an award we were incredibly proud to receive. In 2017 Dunia Baru was awarded Best Charter Boat in Asia, and these two awards confirm what we’ve always known – not only that Dunia Baru is a magnificent superyacht that is in a class of her own, but also that that the crew has truly mastered the fine art of combining local flavor and flair with international-standard systems and service.

“We are so proud to be presented with this award and be recognised for taking the charter experience to the next level in Asia,” said the super yacht’s owner, Mark Robba. “This part of the world is unmatched in its beauty, variety and possibility for unforgettable adventures. Since day one, we have been dedicated to providing guests with the ultimate luxury platform to experience all it has to offer. From our world-class crew to each bespoke itinerary we create, we make sure that for every charter, each element is extraordinary.”

Cementing our commitment to Raja Ampat

In the early months of the year, when the Robba family spent some time in Raja Ampat Dunia Baru‘s owner, Mark Robba, made a commitment to the people of Raja Ampat: he would build a learning center in a small village called Sauwandarek on Mansuar island. The center, which has been designed by acclaimed Indonesian architect Popo Danes, is due to be completed in March 2019. It will be the first of what Robba hopes will be many much-needed libraries and learning centers in the region. Dunia Baru now offers guests the opportunity to leave their own legacy when they travel, and Robba has pledged to match charter clients’ contributions of $10,000 towards the construction of learning centers on 18 remote islands in Raja Ampat.

Providing relief aid to Lombok

One of the most important journeys Dunia Baru undertook this past year was in August when the superyacht sailed to Lombok. A series of powerful earthquakes had devastated parts of the island and, thanks to generous donations from Dunia Baru’s owner as well as charter clients, colleagues and friends across the globe, the Dunia Baru team was able to take much-needed provisions including blankets, tarps, rice, gloves, a generator, gasoline, diesel fuel, fresh water, instant noodles, baby formula, instant milk and diapers to the island. Dunia Baru‘s 18-strong crew also prepared and served 500 hot, fresh meals to locals over the two days.

“The amount of devastation exceeded my expectations,” said Mark Robba, who described seeing flattened homes, roads made nearly impassable due to debris and countless displaced families across northeast Lombok.

Extending our network

This year Dunia Baru participated in the prestigious PURE Marrakech as well as Further East, which was held in Bali. The relationships that our team has established and strengthened from our presence at these shows has been invaluable, and we look forward to working with new and existing partners through 2019.

Making unforgettable memories

Over this past year Dunia Baru has sailed thousands of miles, carrying guests is utter luxury through some of the most pristine waters and breath-taking destinations on the planet. To narrow down some of the highlights of these charters would be impossible, but it is safe to say that every one contained some incredible experiences that will be treasured by our guests for a lifetime.

Thank you to every guest, broker, agent and friend who has been a part of our journey this year – it really has been remarkable, and we look forward to sharing some phenomenal adventure with you in 2019. Wishing you and your loved ones a wonderful festive season and a brilliant start to the new year.
